In 2009 I made my first Transatlantic Crossing on Royal Caribbean’s “Voyager of the Seas.” By 2012 I had made five transatlantic crossings. Cruise ships have transported me from here to there, sometimes for six days and nights with no land in sight. I loved watching the immense panorama of shining water surrounding me on every side. I loved it! I am passionate about the sea. I am totally in awe and wonder when looking out over the water. I have always been inspired, nourished, and touched by something deep of the Spirit with my own spirit when I am near the sea.

This book is dedicated to all the trees who have inspired,
taught, and helped me to breathe.
I have always loved trees. As a young girl, I climbed many of them carefully with delight. The pine trees stood straight and tall just at the edge of the garden behind our neighbor’s house in Massachusetts. They sang to me in the breeze, their long, thin, green needles whispering and sighing. Sometimes their brown needles softly carpeted the ground allowing me to walk silently under their branched arms. They gently, and sometimes powerfully, swayed in the wind whispering something eternal to me. These pine trees were easy for me to climb with their many low branches. I would sit on their outstretched arms for what seemed like hours listening to the sounds of the wind singing through their branches. Perched in the tree, I would secretly watch whatever was passing by on the trail below. I loved the pungent smell of pine and often ended my tree climbing visits with sticky pine pitch on my clothes and in my hair.

BOOKS BY ROBERT FERRE
When I began my career as a labyrinth artist in 1995, few books existed on the subject. Especially instruction books. First, I produced a set of booklets on numerous topics. A decade later, I expanded some of them into full books. Here I include only the items currently in publication. In the future, Lars Howlett will update and take over shepherding these titles.
Two books about proton therapy follow the labyrinth books. Everyone should know about this revolutionary cancer treatment.

LABYRINTH BOOKS
The labyrinth revival began in the United States around 1985 with activity by dowsers using the classical seven-circuit design. By 1990, the Rev. Dr. Lauren Artress began to spread the word about labyrinths using the Chartres Cathedral design. The year 1995 marks the founding of the St. Louis Labyrinth Project (later renamed Labyrinth Enterprises) by me, Robert Ferré, and Veriditas, by Lauren Artress. Veriditas is the leading source for training facilitators. (See LINKS section.) This book gives an idea of how we arrived at having so many labyrinths everywhere, and how they may be used. Labyrinth Enterprises constructed more than 800 replicas of the Chartres labyrinth over a period of 25 years. Because of its complexity, this pattern leads those desiring this labyrinth to hire a professional. A variation of the medieval labyrinth pattern, the Chartres labyrinth pattern reflects deep symbolism and sacred geometry. This manual explains the details needed to make this pattern, including the center petals and the perimeter lunations. It also specifies the original proportions, which incorporate sacred meaning. The classical labyrinth pattern dates back to prehistory, at least 5,000 years. This remains one of the easier patterns to construct, once you know a few little secrets. Do-it-yourselfers typically begin with the seed pattern, a cross, a number of brackets, and four dots. Connecting the elements of the seed pattern produces a classical labyrinth. Spirals can be turned into classical labyrinths using techniques shown in this book. Print edition only.

With a question-and-answer format, this book describes labyrinths in church-appropriate language. It never once mentions earth energies or goddesses and only in passing notes the minotaur or initiation ceremonies. Print edition only.

I believe portable canvas labyrinths, drawn and painted with many different designs, represent an American invention. Never in any book I have read about labyrinth history have I seen mention of portable labyrinths. Perhaps it reflects the mobility of our culture that people can carry a labyrinth in their suitcase. Churches put the labyrinth out for use on scheduled occasions and then fold it up and place it back in storage until its next use. This manual describes what type of canvas to use, how to make your own tools, how to use them, and much more. We have made canvas labyrinths as small as ten feet in diameter, and as large as 40 feet. PROTON THERAPY BOOKS
My current predilection for proton therapy has led to books, websites, lectures, and chat rooms to spread the word about this amazing type of radiation that eliminates cancer even in the hardest to reach places. Anyone diagnosed with cancer, or those who love them, should know about proton therapy and give full consideration to choosing it for your treatment.

Yes, that’s me on the cover, getting treated and then celebrating the completion of my course of radiation. In 2021 my cancer returned (some lymph nodes escaped treatment the first time) and I again successfully received proton therapy.
