The Difference Between a Labyrinth and a Maze

Picturing Jack Nicholson in "The Shining" running around with an ax between tall, confusing hedges. That's a maze. By contrast, a labyrinth is a meditative device, usually two-dimensional, the pattern for which has a single path that leads unerringly (although circuitously) to the center. The difference, however, goes much deeper than that. I will soon put an article here about the subject. It could almost be a whole book.
